Toxic bloom, A Trail of Ignored Warnings
Here we follow an ancient track from the Bronze Age collapse of Terramare, through ancient deforestation and Augustus’s rebranding of time itself. When Imperial Christianity rejected Etruscan warnings in 408 CE, refusing priestly divination of the land’s health through the signs of birds and livers, the world was left increasingly vulnerable to expanding exploitations that have continued to this very moment. Connecting ecological denial from the stagnating industrial waters of an ancient collapsed metals economy to the phantom cyanobacteria that entered Chris’s body — this essay offers a stark reflection on the cost of our refusal to heed the warnings of an animated earth.
